“Cozi anda Flounder” is a father-daughter duo hailing from the DFW metroplex. Surrounded by a talented band of old friends, but standing alone in a genre self-defined as cosmic country, Ezra and Cozi Vancil draw inspiration from artists of generations past—think Bob Dylan, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, and Joan Baez—in order to create a truly unique, soulful, Americana-esk sound.

The trailblazing team immediately left their mark on the music industry, releasing their first EP, “The Place”, launching multiple out-of-state micro tours, performing at music festivals in Texas, Kansas, and Florida, and drawing international praise, and multiple award nominations, for their songs “Misty Girl” and “No One Can Take Me Away,” (finalist in International Songwriting Competition (ISC), Unsigned only, and Newsong songwriting Contest)—and all within their first two years of collaboration.

True to their nature, Ezra and Cozi prefer sitting down for lengthy, cellphone-less songwriting sessions where they work hard, communicate honestly, and search for depth and significance hidden amongst the flurry of laughter, music, and new memories.

“When it's music time, I leave 'Dad' in the living room, and we just become two songwriters working on a problem; how to say something true,” Ezra said. “It’s such an enjoyable time.” Most of these co-written gems capture the essence of a conversation between generations, delving into the complexities of life, such as love, loss, hope, and the unknown.


The resulting songs possess a unique and distinct quality that sets them apart, despite drawing comparisons to Americana artists like Whiskey Myers, Wild Rivers, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, and Fleetwood Mac..

In the coming months, “Cozi anda Flounder” will continue to perform live across the southern states as they once again join forces with Ezra’s longtime producer/drummer, Aaron Thomas, to polish and perfect their sophomore studio project due in summer 2023.

Meet the Artists

Cozi Vancil

With nothing but a harmonica in hand and a smile on her face, Cozi stepped on stage nearly a decade ago and never looked back. Since then, she has written many original songs, improved her skills across several instruments, and realized her true passion for creating and performing music. Today, Cozi is admired for her immersive lyrics, aesthetic vocals, and stage presence beyond her years.

Ezra Vancil

As a teenager, Ezra signed a developmental record deal with an L.A. label, kickstarting a musical journey filled with decades of writing, recording, touring, and performing. Throughout the course of his career, Ezra’s music has been featured on hundreds of film and television soundtracks on top channels, including the Discovery Channel, BBC, Video Hits One, and many more. Additionally, he has performed at some of the largest music festivals in the United States, such as the Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, Texas, and South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. Currently, Ezra is using the knowledge, skills, and wisdom in his industry veteran toolbox to help both mentor his daughter and catapult “Cozi anda Flounder” to the next level.
